In a powerful demonstration of community, culture, and compassion, the Edmonton Reggae Festival Society and The Melisizwe Brothers have united to release “Brighter Days,” an inspiring new single dedicated to families affected by Hurricane Melissa. The song will be released on December 15th, symbolizing solidarity between Alberta and Caribbean communities—especially those in Jamaica, where the storm’s impact has been deeply felt.
Produced at TMB Gold Mind Studios in Leduc, Alberta, “Brighter Days” is creatively led by Zacary Melisizwe, the SOCAN Young Canadian Songwriter of the Year. The track blends soulful vocals with Caribbean-inspired rhythms and uplifting songwriting, offering comfort to families across Jamaica and neighbouring islands as they rebuild after the hurricane’s severe damage.
The single features a lineup of artists united for the cause: Delroy Parr, Daddy-H, Marc Melisizwe, and Zacary Melisizwe (The Melisizwe Bros)—each contributing their unique sound and artistry to strengthen the message of hope and resilience.
Hurricane Melissa affected multiple regions throughout the Caribbean, including several Jamaican communities that now face long-term recovery needs. The collaboration aims to highlight these realities while amplifying support and awareness through music.
The project also acknowledges Jamaica’s central influence on global reggae culture. As the birthplace of reggae, Jamaica’s musical legacy helped shape the spirit of “Brighter Days,” reinforcing the importance of unity, resilience, and cultural connection.
Support for the release is widespread across Edmonton’s Jamaican and wider Caribbean communities, who remain active in cultural preservation and relief efforts. The partnership between the Edmonton Reggae Festival Society and The Melisizwe Brothers strengthens ties between Edmonton and the Caribbean diaspora, honouring the roots and traditions that inspire the music.
The Edmonton Reggae Festival Society will integrate the single into broader relief and awareness initiatives to help direct support toward recovery programs throughout Jamaica and other affected islands.
